Ocean Conservancy

Educate Yourself About Oceans and Marine Life
All life on Earth is connected to the ocean and its inhabitants. The more you learn about the issues facing this vital system, the more you’ll want to help ensure its health—then share that knowledge to educate and inspire others.

Help Take Care of the Beach
Whether you enjoy diving, surfing, or relaxing on the beach, always clean up after yourself. Explore and appreciate the ocean without interfering with wildlife or removing rocks and coral. Go even further by encouraging others to respect the marine environment or by participating in local beach cleanups.

Make Safe, Sustainable Seafood Choices
Global fish populations are rapidly being depleted due to demand, loss of habitat, and unsustainable fishing practices. When shopping or dining out, help reduce the demand for overexploited species by choosing seafood that is both healthful and sustainable.

Don't Purchase Items That Exploit Marine Life
Certain products contribute to the harming of fragile coral reefs and marine populations. Avoid purchasing items such as coral jewelry, tortoiseshell hair accessories (made from hawksbill turtles), and shark products.

Use Fewer Plastic Products
Plastics that end up as ocean debris contribute to habitat destruction and entangle and kill tens of thousands of marine animals each year. To limit your impact, carry a reusable water bottle, store food in nondisposable containers, bring your own cloth tote or other reusable bag when shopping, and recycle whenever possible.

Dolphin Echolocation

Echolocation is what Dolphins use to communicate and to find food.
dolphin echolocation
Dolphins make a sound that travels quickly through water. this sound is bounced back and the information tells the dolphin how close and how big a fish is. It's believed that the whistling sounds dolphins are known to make also are part of echolocation. They are able to pass air through the blowhole. If you take a balloon, partially blow it up, and then slowly let air out, that is similar to the same results they get.

Sea Turtles

Sea Turtles are marine reptiles. They have a hard shell for protection. Unlike Land turtles, Sea turtles can't bring their heads and arms (flippers) into their shells. But sea turtles can swim really fast. Most species of sea turtle are endangered.

Rock Pigeon

The Rock Pigeon, or Rock Dove, is a common bird in North America. The adult is 11 to 15 in long with a 24 to 28 in wingspan. Weight for wild Rock Doves ranges from 238 to 380 grams , though overfed domestic and semi-domestic individuals can exceed normal weight.

The rock pigeon has a dark bluish-gray head, neck, and chest with glossy yellowish, greenish, and reddish-purple iridescence along its neck and wing feathers. The iris is orange, red or golden with a paler inner ring, and the bare skin round the eye is bluish-grey. The bill is grey-black with a conspicuous off-white cere, and the feet are purplish-red.

Rock pigeons are the same kind of pigeon that was used in wars to send letters, that's why  they are sometimes called messaging pigeons or carrier pigeons.
